Long Island Football Influencer
Jasen Isom is a shining example of a Long Island Youth Football player who chased his dream, overcame the obstacles and reached the pinnacle of the game; the NFL. He is equally as special as a Coach and Mentor for the young players of Long Island. Jasen runs Camp 41 Elite Training Institute, an organization he started to fulfill the needs of Long Island Youth Football Players who are serious about moving on to the next level. His style and intensity are way beyond what most football players and coaches in the Long Island region are accustomed to, and it’s contagious. He is extremely demanding, and many have commented that his spiritual approach to training provides a platform for them to work harder than they ever imagined. He is the epitome of a gentleman and is adored by his fans and clients. Jason is never without pause to offer help and volunteer with anything that will further Long Island Football.
“The system in Long Island is broken. That’s why our region does not get any respect on the National level for football. That’s why it’s so difficult for kids from Long Island to make it to the next level. It’s not because of a lack of talent, I assure you that. — I’m a humble guy; but I’ve done it. — I’ve been there. — I know what it takes,” says Isom. “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had conversations with coaches, and it appears they are afraid, and intimidated to do anything different than what they’ve been doing for the past 20 years.”
While there are a number of former NFL and NCAA Division I players residing on Long Island and willing to get involved, it is rare to see them integrated with the High School programs. Historically their football prowess is seen as a threat by the high school coaches, and so many of them run their own programs and train players separately from the Varsity program. Stories are rampant of high school coaches banning their players from training with these experts rather than embracing it and integrating it into their programs.
Jasen’s story starts as a Pee Wee football player with memories of his dad taking him to run laps at 7 years old for conditioning, and pushing him to his limits. Stardom at Half Hollow Hills High in Long Island didn’t mean much to Division I colleges. A reasonable young man would have quit long ago. And reasonable young men don’t get anywhere near the NFL after a) not getting a college scholarship out of high school, b) still not getting a scholarship after a year at prep school to boost his standardized test scores, c) going to the University of Cincinnati and still not getting a scholarship, even after starting a few games, and d) finally earning a scholarship on the third try when he was recruited to Division I-AA Western Illinois. When NFL scouts came to his school, mostly to see two other players who ended up being drafted in the second and third rounds, Isom would be an incidental character on the field. The San Francisco 49ers noticed him, though, and called him on draft day — after the draft was over. They brought him into camp as a rookie free agent. Jasen went on to play for the 49ers and the New Orleans Saints.
Jasen’s colleagues, clients, players, parents and fans say that nothing compares to the inspiration and expertise that he shares. If you are a coach, a player, a fan, or a parent from Long Island; whoever you are: reach out to him. Tell him LIYFA sent you, and you be the judge.
