LONG ISLAND (April 21 2017) –– The Sports Safety team from Hospital for Special Surgery (“HSS”) will host “Huddle Up with HSS Sports Safety” in partnership with the Long Island Youth Football Association (“LIYFA”) on Monday, May 22 at 7:00 p.m. Player safety is a hot-button issue in the sport of football, and while significant attention has been focused on head injuries, many of the musculoskeletal injuries common in the sport have been overshadowed.
Coaches, football players and their parents from across Long Island and metropolitan New York are invited to attend this event, which will feature expert speakers from HSS. The event will include a panel discussion that will aim to create dialogue between these experts and a select group of influencers from the football community.

“Our group has advocated for many increased safety measures in the sport, including safer tackling techniques, heat index awareness, sideline protocols, and graduated contact levels,” said Benjamin Carey, President of LIYFA. “The HSS staff conducts hands-on workshops with the coaches and parents offering valuable insight on performance and injury prevention. HSS has long been a beacon for excellence and education in the sports community, and we are happy to work with them on their great offerings on Long Island.”
“HSS Sports Safety is very excited to partner with LIYFA on this very important project,” said Joseph Janosky, Manager of HSS Sports Safety. “We look forward to teaching coaches, parents, sports administrators and football players across Long Island how to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, particularly ACL injuries.”
HSS Sports Safety is supported by the Dinan Family Foundation. Educational opportunities provide coaches, parents, sports administrators and young athletes with tools and resources to reduce the risk of ACL injury.
Long Island Youth Football Association is the football hub in the region. The organization connects thousands of coaches, players, and parents across Long Island, all in the name of elevating the sport of football. LIYFA’s goals are a safer game, better instruction, and better opportunities & exposure for Long Island players.
