D’Brickashaw Ferguson’s journey from Freeport, New York, to the NFL is a testament to his dedication and talent. Born in New York City and raised in Freeport, Ferguson attended Freeport High School. Encouraged by his coach and family, he persevered and became a standout player. In his senior year, he earned the Thorpe Award as Nassau County’s top player and the Martone Award for best lineman, making him the first lineman to win the Thorpe Award in 25 years.
Ferguson’s excellence extended beyond the football field. He was an honor roll student, a member of the National Honor Society, and an accomplished musician and martial artist . After graduating in 2002, he continued his football career at the University of Virginia, where he started 49 consecutive games, a record for an offensive lineman at UVA. He received All-American and All-ACC first-team honors and graduated with a B.A. in Religious Studies.
In 2006, Ferguson was selected by the New York Jets as the fourth overall pick in the NFL Draft. He played his entire 10-year career with the Jets, earning three Pro Bowl selections and a spot in the team’s Ring of Honor. His dedication to the game and his community has left a lasting legacy.
