Long Island Football Influencer
Paul Longo is the varsity football coach of William Floyd Colonials and has influenced Long Island football in major ways. His career accomplishments speak for themselves as Longo’s football teams have dominated with multiple state championships, and the media, fans, and coaches have praised him for creating a “dynasty.” Andy Slawson of Newsday has watched high school sports for the last 36 years and is considered Long Island’s best prep sports historian. “Paul has done an amazing job. He is an offensive genius who knows how to get the most from his kids. He has done things that no other coach on Long Island has done in the 130-year history of high school football on Long Island,” said Slawson.
But like all great leaders, it is not only his experience that makes him popular, it is also his persona. A man of many accolades; he is not overbearing or arrogant. Paul is an affable man easy to strike up conversation with. He is intelligent, witty, and easy to share laughs with. He is revered by his players, many who have gone on to play at the highest levels of football and still keep in touch years later. Paul also serves as a mentor to many youth football coaches across Long Island through his involvement in various clinics and events. With decades of experience and numerous titles; a fire still burns inside of him to coach. Outside of his legendary varsity career which continues, he is a head coach for Long Island’s FBU National Championship Team for Middle School aged players and involved in many other activities always making it a point to give back. He coaches for all the right reasons, evident by the many projects and volunteer hours spent helping players and anyone wanting to learn the game. He will no doubt go down in history as one of long island’s winning-est and most influential coaches.
