HSS-LIYFA Alliance Promotes Exciting Safety Program for Long Island Football Players

More than 35 million young athletes participate in sports in the United States. 94% of parents want better protection.
East Northport, NY (February 23, 2017) – Long Island Youth Football association is the self-proclaimed “heartbeat” of football in the region. The organization connects thousands of coaches, players, and parents across Long Island, all in the name of elevating the level of football. LIYFA’s goals are a safer game, better instruction, and better opportunities & exposure for Long Island players.
In another move to promote player safety, LIYFA has joined a strategic alliance with the world renowned Hospital for Special Surgery, and will be promoting their Sports Safety Program.
“We’ve advocated for so many safety measures; things like tackling technique, heat index awareness, sideline protocols, and graduated contact levels. The HSS program is another great offering to the community. Their staff conducts hands-on workshops with the coaches and parents offering valuable insight on performance and injury prevention. HSS has long been a beacon for excellence and education in the sports community, and we are happy to work with them”, said Benjamin Carey, President of LIYFA.
The HSS Sports Safety Program aims to raise awareness of the importance of programs that improve sports performance, reduce injury rates, and minimize lifelong exposure to preventable musculoskeletal health issues. The program also offers educational programs and tools to audiences that share responsibility for the safety of youth and high school athletes. HSS established the program through a generous donation by HSS Board member James Dinan and his wife, Elizabeth Miller through the Dinan Family Foundation.
“The HSS Sports Safety team is excited to partner with LIYFA. We look forward to teaching coaches, parents and sports administrators across Long Island how to reduce the risk of injury for young athletes”, said Joseph Janosky, Manager of HSS Sports Safety.
Mr. Janosky brings more than twenty years of experience as a physical therapist and athletic trainer to injury prevention program development. He has extensive clinical experience with youth, high school, collegiate and professional athletes, with particular concentration in football, baseball and rugby.
