Long Island Football Influencer

[These are the movers and shakers of Long Island Youth Football that we wish to honor. They are Coaches, Recruiters, Parents, NFL/NCAA players, and dedicated people doing things in and outside their communities to elevate the level of football on Long Island. These people do not all have 20 years of experience, fancy alma maters, or superstar backgrounds. Many of them do; but what they all have in common is more important than that: they all put in many hours dedicated to the cause. This is time spent away from their families, sacrificing, working hard to to gain more exposure for players on Long Island, and creating new opportunities for them. Their passion and dedication is fueling the new movement that is getting people on Long Island excited about football. #JoinTheLiyfaMovement]
Benjamin J. Carey is the President of Northport Youth Football Club, President of the nationally acclaimed Youth Football Coaches Association, Team Director for the Long Island FBU Team, and a head coach for both NPYFC and the Long Island Spartans Elite Football Programs. His overall record coaching a talented group of 2025 players is 57-14-1.
He came on to the Long Island football scene in 2011, and had an immediate impact on the local football program. He took a major role volunteering for the community league in Northport and a year later his relentless efforts to raise the level of football and improve club operations led to him being voted as the Vice President of the organization. He subsequently orchestrated a complete restructuring of the organization and leadership including bringing back former President Joe Fortuna. Under the supervision of Carey, Northport Youth Football Club has thrived and is a respected member of Suffolk County PAL. The club models all the right principles, organizational policies, and safety practices, and as a result it has received many awards. In 2013 NPYFC was chosen to film an NFL/USA Football Television Commercial that aired during the Super Bowl.

“…For the past 3 seasons I’ve had the pleasure of working with Benjamin Carey on several successful youth projects working with and/or through the PAL system.  I’m sure the great working relationship between PAL and Northport will continue with the same enthusiasm…”
-Anthony Williams, Chairman, Suffolk County PAL

“I have had the pleasure of working with Benjamin Carey in PAL and other youth football events on Long Island. He is a passionate teacher of football, and hard working volunteer. His values are in the right place, and Northport will flourish under his leadership.”
-Rich Platia, Suffolk County PAL Football, Director of Officials

“This is a guy who genuinely loves the kids and has a passion and competitiveness for football like I’ve never seen. He puts in many volunteer hours, and his message and inspiration are always on point! I don’t know what we would do without him,”
-former NPYFC President Joe Fortuna.

Carey has already left a legacy in the region by creating an annual pee wee homecoming festival,  and a long list of community building events. There are movies on the lawn, combines, clinics, and Long Island’s best and only youth football networking event at hosted at Oheka castle. His tireless efforts to bridge relationships with and between the football personalities of Long Island has led to increased exposure and excitement for youth football.
“I would love to see the day when NCAA Division I recruiters prioritize their annual trips down 495 to check out our local prospects. With guys like Gerald Filardi, Mike Spina, James Brady, George Schemmel, Tim Forehand, and many others working together — it’s a real possibility,” said Carey.
