Long Island Football Influencer
[These are the movers and shakers of Long Island Youth Football that we wish to honor. They are Coaches, Recruiters, Parents, NFL/NCAA players, and dedicated people doing things in and outside their communities to elevate the level of football on Long Island. These people do not all have 20 years of experience, fancy alma maters, or superstar backgrounds. Many of them do; but what they all have in common is more important than that: they all put in many hours dedicated to the cause. This is time spent away from their families, sacrificing, working hard to to gain more exposure for players on Long Island, and creating new opportunities for them. Their passion and dedication is fueling the new movement that is getting people on Long Island excited about football. #JoinTheLiyfaMovement]
Jonathan Woods coached at Stonybrook University for 9+ seasons, working with numerous all-conference selections. He was also a recruiter, and is still relied on by many outside the LI area for his ability to identify local talent.
He is involved heavily in the Long Island Youth Football scene. He spends an exhaustive amount of time cultivating youth football players from all over Long Island in regular appearances at clinics, camps, and combines. He has been a featured presenter at many youth football events in Long Island and does not hesitate to give his time and expertise to the young players in the region. What is most amazing about him is his ability to adapt and command the attention of his audience, whether they are coaches, pee wee football players, or NCAA players. They all love and respect him.
Woods’ offensive linemen consistently paved the way for some of the best rushing attacks in the FCS. In 2012, his offensive line was responsible for Stony Brook’s best offensive season in school history. The O-Line blocked for two 1,000-yard rushers for a second straight season and a rushing attack that ranked fourth in FCS.
After coaching the tight ends for three years, Woods moved to the offensive line in 2009 and helped Paul Fenaroli earn All-Big South first-team honors two years in a row. The O-Line helped block for two 1,000-yard rushers for the second time in four years. In 2009, the offensive line blocked for a rushing attack that finished 30th in the nation and allowed just over a sack per game to rank in the top 25.
During his time working with the tight ends, the group became an integral part of the Stony Brook offense, with making numerous key receptions, including the game-winning TD last season against Charleston Southern. In his first season on the staff he coached the outside linebackers in 2005.
Woods arrived at Stony Brook after spending one season as an assistant coach at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Mass.) where he served as the outside linebackers coach.
A four-year letterwinner and two-year starter on the offensive line at Union College, Woods earned his Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 2004.
